If today’s papers are to be believed, the prospect of reforming care funding has been well and truly kicked into the long grass, condemning millions more older people to misery in their final years.
This simply isn’t good enough. The care system is in crisis now and needs more funding and substantial reform to meet the needs of our ageing population. We can’t wait until 2025 or whenever politicians get their act together. Austerity is not an excuse for inaction; there is more than enough wealth in Britain to create a better care system for all.
Now is the time for a mass movement for better care, for this generation and future generations of older people. 14 December 2011
